Why all of a Sudden is Everyone Deficient in Vitamin D?

I saw this title and immediately wanted to find out what it said.  I had noticed this change where people were taking mega doses of vitamin D and it was even prescribed by their medical doctor.   I then checked Dr. Oz’s take on it and he said “Most people are deficient in this crucial cancer-fighting vitamin. Find out how this supplement superstar helps to prevent 3 different types of cancer.”

Funny, talking about a vitamin as a preventative.   Perhaps, we should just build good health and not worry about “disease” and what we should take to try and ward it off.

Then I listened to Dr. Berg’s video which  explained how vitamin D worked and what relationship it had with other vitamins.   It is very much worth the time to understand this.

Vitamin B May Protect Against Alzheimer’s and More

The reference by Dr. Mercola talks about homocysteine being lowered in the body in the presence of vitamin B.  I was interested in forwarding this as homecysteine has also always been associated with heart disease and more and now Alzheimers.

Why?  The body needs cysteine.  It is vital to making Glutathione.

(Go to the link if you want to know more about Glutathione, the body’s master anti-oxidant).

Homeocysteine is part of a reaction in the body and is supposed to convert to cysteine.  But it needs B vitamins to convert.   Thus, the need for the B vitamins.

Here is what the article is about:

B vitamins may slow brain shrinkage by as much as seven-fold in brain regions specifically known to be most impacted by Alzheimer’s disease

High levels of the amino acid homocysteine are linked to brain shrinkage and an increased risk of Alzheimer’s; B vitamins are known to suppress homocysteine

Among participants taking high doses of folic acid and vitamins B6 and B12, blood levels of homocysteine were lowered as was the associated brain shrinkage – by up to 90 percent

Gluten Free Foods – the “Healthy Choice” ?

You have probably noticed a growing number of processed food products boasting with a label that says “Gluten-Free”.  It is the healthy choice.

It is interesting that a lot of people have gluten-free diets – they eat fruit, vegetables, meat – not processed foods.    But now you can actually buy ‘gluten-free’ pizza among many other gluten-free foods – cookies, cereals, breads, etc.

What does this all mean?   I decided to find out and here is an article on this

Gluten Free Foods – Are they healthy?

Grains – Are they good for you?

A lot of us know we can’t eat wheat. There are those who have “celiac’s disease” and then there are those who know that wheat and other grains just don’t agree with their digestive system.

There are many drugs available for the symptoms that are created by the problems many people have with digestion. And one has to ask the question, are these drugs necessary? Or is it something that I ate?

Here is an article on Grains

Another problem with Gluten-Free Foods

I got onto understanding gluten-free and found that although wheat free and a substitute for the foods people like that normally are made from wheat, that it is very high in carbohydrates.

If you look at the labels, it is high in starches, potato, rice, etc. etc. Now, we know that it increases the insulin in your body, but if that is not a concern to you, I realized it could cause other problems.

Candida or fungus or yeast is a normal part of the body, however, if it overgrows it can cause all sorts of problems.

What does this fungus thrive on – sugar.

What is carbohydrates?   Carbohydrates are long chains of glucose molecules hooked together.   And when the body digests the carbohydrates and breaks it down, it becomes glucose or sugar.

High amounts of carbohydrates become high amounts of sugar.   And if you have any overgrowth of this type of yeast, it will help it multiply.

It is something to think about when reaching for the gluten-free foods.

Remember the food you eat can create health, but it can also cause health problems.

Chemo Brain & What Can Be Done

There has been a big debate over chemo brain for almost as long as chemotherapy has been around.   After receiving chemotherapy, a person complains about their ability to remember, learn and they talk about the constant fog they feel they are in.

When a person complains about sharp pains in their toes, the doctor knows it neuropathy and gives them a pamphlet “Living with Neuropathy”.  But what about when their thinking is getting foggy?

There are many reasons put forth and all you have to do is search for the term “chemo brain” on the Internet and you will find lots of theories and back and forth.  Suggestions about “brain games” are even made to help you get your wits back.

Here is the information that we’ve found regarding Chemo Fog

With Nerve Damage, you need more than an antioxidant.

In the last year or so, the number of articles written about neuropathy has grown and with this number the different “natural” remedies have grown.  I even find new “remedies” that come and go on a regular basis which claim they have the ingredients to help neuropathy.

Most remedies that I found claim antioxidants are the thing that will help, but others have their own combinations.

The real bottom line is will it build healthy nerves?  What does the body need to build healthy nerves?

The right tools for Neuropathy, read about it here.

Fibromyalgia and Neuropathy

I’ve often noticed a similarity between the symptoms of fibromyalgia and neuropathy.  I even knew someone who was diabnosed as having fibromyalgia who tried the remedy for neuropathy (WSN Nerve Support Formula) with good results.  I thought at the time that maybe she was misdiagnosed and really had neuropathy

Recently there was a study done on some people with small fiber poly neuropathy and half of them were found to have neuropathy.

Here is an article on Fibromyalgia which talks about these studies later in the article, and has a link to the actual study.

It would be nice to know that some people can get relief from their fibromyalgia by addressing it as neuropathy.    I know how debilitating fibromyalgia can be,
